ARTISTIC STATEMENT

Our work explores a dystopian world, creating a space of confluences and (re)mixing the border between rational and irrational. Tangaj style of movement is highly physical, based on the manipulation of speed, and disjointed body-mind connections. Simona and the dancers have developed a workshop series, based on the use of deconstruction and dissociation principles as movement generators.

With a progress-driven vision on dance and the evolution of the human body in motion, our creations explore the way in which evolutive altering of the body can be regarded from several perspectives, starting from the scientific principles which form the foundation of known motive phenomena. Our artistic direction is aimed at interdisciplinary and transversal projects, particularly collaborations with visual and sound artist, in which technological innovation is used as an instrument of research and creation, in order to turn the performance space into a portal of parallel realities, attempting to simulate the cognitive processes of the modern man, invaded by the world he lives in.

Chaos is the world that triggers our research. It all begins from the big shout of the street, the desire to stop time and just observe the micro movements of the things around us. The world is so well orchestrated, so brilliantly choreographed that the nature became our biggest mentor, that cruel, passionate nature that exists at the subway exit.

The body is an archive which changes every second, impossible to stabilize or stop, which is why most of the time we speculate on the accident, we use the moment and the happenstance to be able to stabilize it, developing at first out of natural intuition. We think that a performance creates itself as a negation of outer logic and reason because it creates and re-creates itself with each new proposal, because each action there is a challenge, because we aim to reach a natural, organic symbiosis of the body in motion with the environment in which it develops. Whether our actions create the world or we are created by our own actions is an ongoing question for us.

THE COLLECTIVE

Tangaj Collective is a project based company created in 2013 by choreographer Simona Deaconescu and film producer Anamaria Antoci. We create dance performances and films and develop interdisciplinary projects in the field of new media arts, festivals and interventions in public spaces and galleries. We collaborate with visual and sound artists and interactive media developers. Tangaj choreographer and dancers teach classes of dance technique focusing on the organicity of the body in motion, the understanding of the cognitive processes behind dance and the use of instant sound in the creation of dance. Since 2015 Simona coordinates intensive workshops dealing with the use of mixed media in dance.
