Tangaj Dance Association (Tangaj Collective) is an NGO founded in 2014, focused in two directions: production of artistic works created by Simona Deaconescu and her collaborators (doubled by educational programs and touring) and organising cultural projects dedicated to the local community. TC is annually funded by The Administration of the National Cultural Fund on project-based funding, in 2018 being nominated for the Interdisciplinary Award and in 2019 for the promotion of Romanian art outside the borders. The association produces art and technology works as site-specific installations, dance films, video works and performances. Tangaj has created one of the most popular training programs for non-professionals in Bucharest, with over 2000 participants over time, doubled by regular workshops on dance technique and interdisciplinary composition, lead by Simona Deaconescu and her collaborators.
Starting with 2015, Tangaj Dance has set up the only dance film festival in Romania – BIDFF – Bucharest International Dance Film Festival. The project has grown from year to year, becoming a platform for exposing the most in vogue artists in the field of dance and film and, in parallel, creating a laboratory to support the production of domestic dance film. Among the activities included in the festival are film screenings, workshops, exhibitions of digital art, shows and conferences. In 2016, 2018 and 2020, Tangaj organised three complex tours in 12 cities in the country “Bodies in Transition”, “Counterbodies” and “Roots and Routes”, including presentation of shows, dance films, workshops and masterclasses. In 2014 and 2015 Tangaj Dance co-produced, together with the 4Culture Association, the project “X Platform”, an international program of new media residencies and two years later was one of the producers of “+2017 [body, love and contemporary dance]”, a showcase platform for Romanian dance.
