An inspirational site-specific poetry, “bringing to life” a certain physical space, through the interaction between dance/ performance, generative visuals (an interactive video projection) and sound. All media being connected in a real-time experience of intermedia oneness, for artists and public. Spaces Alive is conceived by Mihaela Kavdanska & Dilmana Yordanova as a series of site-specific, performative video installations. They invite to collaboration artists from different fields, telling a new story every time, in a new space, using various formats of interaction and implementation. Simona Deaconescu has joined the team as a movement director and content creator for #Habitat, #Atlas and #Abstract.

The first episode of Spaces Alive activated the oldest building in Bucharest, a XVIIIth century traditional dweller’s home with Oriental-Balcanic influences that went through multiple transformation through time. The space is currently re-activated thanks to a successful collaboration between The National Institute of Heritage and Calup, with an aim to transform it into a space that is dedicated to culture. At the intersection between history and the future, the performative intervention managed to shape shift the way in which Bucharest can become surREAL under our very eyes.

In September, a new performative intervention put the National Museum of Maps and Old Books into a new light. Using Voronoi’s diagram, a mathematical method to divide a plane in different areas by uniting multiple points, we created along with our public a way in which the geometry of action constructed a different kind of map, in which human presence and movement redefined perception.

In October, the fourth performative intervention in the frame of the Spaces Alive chapter, returned to the white cube of an art gallery with the help of our friends at the Ephemair Association who run A5 Studio Space. Our first edition took place in 2016 in the frame of the NAG RETROSPECT: Memory Leaks exhibition at ARCUB/Gabroveni Inn and was followed by performances in diverse spaces – on the TEDx scene, in the immersive Deep Space 8K @ Ars Electronica Center, out in the city, in clubs, old houses or museums. Spaces Alive #abstract was inspired by Piet Mondrian and his utopian search for universal aesthetic values.
